Leaving Erie we rolled through a small downtown area and headed northeast. The buildings in Erie have so much character and detail. Some are very well taken care of, and others seem to be waiting for someone to reno them.
We quickly found our route along the water front. This route is actually up on a cliff of shale that can be up to 500+ feet high.. and then some areas with beaches. The trees blocked a lot of the water views, but occasionally we were treated to water front views. The whole route is decorated in vineyards. Even the air smells sweet to me, like grapes and apples.
The New York State sign appeared out of no where for me today. I stopped and put a sticker on the post and snapped a pic. 12th state!
We biked past a lighthouse being worked on. Lots of nice stonework entrances to properties along this route. Luckily it had a nice shoulder to ride on, so the ride really seemed to fly by. Had fun with snacks at the SAG.
Yesterday on the rest day I booked a sunset sailboat tour. Scott the owner of Your Sailing Adventure told me about the Frank Loyd Wright designed house along our route today.. so I made a short detour to check it out. They don’t let you walk the property, only scheduled tours. I didn’t have 2 hours to hang out and do the tour but they were nice enough to walk me out to get a quick picture of the house. Apparently the family he designed it for he also designed a 15k foot house in Buffalo for them too! The house in the above pictures was their summer home.
Coming into Buffalo was a 180 from the road we were on. We went from some traffic to heavy city traffic that really didn’t love me riding along the roadway. I did the best I could using crosswalks to safely get through left turns at big intersections. I hope leaving tomorrow is not too wild. It will be a Saturday so maybe that will help. We will see!
