Doing ALL the things.

Yes, 2019 is the year of me being "ALL IN." So when I was invited to Vegas, while I'm in the middle of trying to lose some weight & train for the upcoming race season.. I said, let me see.. oh wait, I'M IN.

Honestly, I did take a bit of time to think through this, one day. I came up with a plan to take some food with me, plan out my workouts while there, and make the trip work into my current plan to stay on both my nutrition and training schedule. There were adjustments made. There had to be, to make it all flow.

Are you on a training program, a weight-loss program, or a current workout daily program?? Yep, me too. When going out of town has potential to throw all this out of wack... but it doesn't have to, don't let it! #goalsetting #achieveit

All situation will vary slightly, and I'm happy to try to help you find a way to make it work for you while out of town, message me! But I'll outline a few things that work for me while traveling.

- Stay with your program while traveling. But how?? I suggest taking a step back and looking at your travel timeline. How long are the workouts that are scheduled, how much time do you need to fit it in, are their windows of time in your travel schedule.. and when are you going to wash your hair? (Ladies, you get me when I say this. HA)

I bet you can add most of your exercises into your trip with planning and potentially explaining to the people you're visiting that you're on a mission to stick to your program, you're bettering yourself and I'm sure they will support you! (If not, we need to talk about friend selection.) Maybe you have dinner 30 min later, you can't make that extra coffee time, or maybe, just maybe, you get them to workout with you!? WHOA? You will earn double points from me for that one!

Yes, you might run into a situation when you just can't make it work to complete the full workout, what then? This is where you might feel like you're going off the rails.. you're not.

This is life, there are turns and dips on the path to healthy living.. it's how you navigate them that matters!

Time to make some decisions, how can you put the limited time you have into efficient use? Do a HIT workout instead of a long cardio based one, lift heavy that day, or target one muscle group.

On my recent trip, I had to

  1. Arrived later in the day to get my workout in; I missed dinner, but still made it with plenty of time to catch up with friends.

  2. I got a little less sleep one day to be able to get up early to make it to a group workout.

  3. I chose to push one of my workouts to the next day and double up so that I could go ride in a place I've always wanted to. And I missed zero of my training plan by doing so.

A training plan or schedule could make you feel like you are a prisoner to your home base.. but it doesn't cause you're stronger than that!! :)

- Be aware of your food and drink choices. This one can be difficult with so many great choices while out of town! I typically think about where I'm headed.. what types of healthy food can I find in those regions? There are plenty of un-healthy choices, but pause and look for healthy. I prefer to stick to veggies, fruit, fish, and vodka/soda waters. I take oatmeal for breakfast with my cappuccino; it sets me right for the day, with possibly a few snack items in tow to prevent a mis-step. IF you do feel you eat poorly for a meal, move on and consider it an experience.. living in a state of constant calorie counting is not ideal, just being mindful is the sweet spot.

If you're not sure how to make this happen, reach out to me, a friend, or family member to talk through potential ways to make your trip work for you! Travel healthy and get your sweat on at the same time!
