To Group Ride or Not?

Group rides, group exercises in general, come with a bit of intimidation. Do you know someone there? Can you keep up?

Do you ride to meet people or to test your fitness?

You can do both, meet people and test your fitness. The trick is not taking yourself too seriously when you're out there. Yes, push your self as hard as you can to keep up.. but it's OK to fall back with the next group, it's OK to break away from the group and ride solo if you're not feeling it.



Group rides and workouts have a great place in your weekly training. They can push you to ride faster and from this you know your weaknesses. If you get dropped or can't keep up at a certain point, that's a great way to pin-point what you should train on the next week or month!

 

So, how do you find group activities? A great place to start is your local bike or running shop. These will have group rides and runs to get you connected. Another place I really like is Meetup.com where you can join groups based on your interests!
